Yorkshire Dales

Most of the walls standing today were built during the Enclosure Movement of the late 1700s and early 1800s — a period when common lands were divided and ownership had to be made visible. Overnight, the open Dales were carved into the patchwork we see now. Thousands of wallers worked through harsh northern winters, laying stone on stone, no mortar, no machinery. Just craft, cold hands, and geometry.
